-depuis son « bonjour » prononcé avec autorité au poste de police, Raymond Quintal ne lui avait pas adressé la parole. Seuls quelques grands sourires gonflaient ses pommettes saillantes qui relevaient ainsi ses larges verres fumés. Alex se fit la réflexion que le sergent vivait le même problème que son père : il portait des montures trop grandes pour son visage. Il avait d'ailleurs le même sourire et les joues particulièrement agiles… La comparaison s'arrêtait là cependant, puisque son père était, lui, un véritable moulin à paroles.
