droit devant lui traînaient sur le trottoir quelques boîtes de carton qui produisaient un son bizarre et éveillaient la peur. De l’autre côté de l’arrêt d’autobus, les hampes des drapeaux cliquetaient dans le vent et les feuilles mortes tourbillonnaient dans tous les sens.

Fabian regarda autour de lui. Il ne voyait toujours aucune âme qui vive. Aucun signe de vie, absolument rien. Les lampadaires éclairaient la rue ; eux, au moins, semblaient fonctionner.

Il s’éloigna de sa voiture de quelques pas. Une affreuse sensation le gagnait. Une fois de plus, la panique s’emparait de lui, mais, cette fois-ci, il ne s’agissait plus de claustrophobie.
